Best and worst tanks by tier and type – best tier V light tank

There are five tier V light tanks  (by patch 9.19):

  • T-50
  • Chaffee
  • M7
  • Leopard VK 16.02
  • AMX ELC bis

All light tanks now get regular matchmaking.

This is not an easy pick. The MAX used to be a favourite, due to the gun it had before the changes in the matchmaking. Nowadays, the gun is nerfed, and is more “normal”, even with an alpha damage for it’s tier. As a pure scout tank, when you only want to spot the enemy, it might be the best. But you also have to deal some damage, and it’s damage per minute is to low to compete here. This is true both when you are an active scout and when you are a passive scout.

If you want to do damage during the start of the battle and during the middle period of the battle, however, the other four tanks are better. I have a soft spot for the T-50, so it will be a candidate. The Leopard is the worst of the others, even with the best armor. This is because it’s traverse speed, both on the tank and on the turret, is too bad.

The differences between the three others are quite small, so my judgement has to depend on what tank I’ve had the most fun in. Therefore, it has to be the Chaffee. 

Pros:

  • Decent gun, but not very good
  • Decent speed
  • Great maneuverability

Cons:

  • A bit low damage per minute
  • Larger than the the T-50 and worse camo rating.
